Set up Images

Images has two access planes: authenticated API requests create or inspect preparation work; binding delivery URLs serve prepared images. A paid Images entitlement grants product access. Recording observed delivery usage does not debit prepaid credit or create an automatic overage charge.

1. Sign in to the Customer dashboard and select the intended Project on the Images page.
2. Verify Images product access in Billing. A binding or Credential alone cannot grant it.
3. Give the Service Account steam.images.resolve.v1 for single resolve, steam.images.batch.v1 for batch and steam.images.read.v1 for polling. Create a Credential for server-side requests.
4. Create an active current Images binding for that Project in the Dashboard.
5. Resolve a known image or an admitted source, request formats: ["webp", "avif"], and poll until settled. Save ready URLs from the response.
6. Check delivery and the existing Billing Images report. Preparation completion is not proof that provider measurement has arrived.

Images requires explicitly enabled access. Check availability in Billing before integrating; this guide does not announce general availability.

Never put a Credential in browser code or an image URL. Your server calls the Images API; browsers receive only the returned ready delivery URLs. Credential API requests are subject to the shared workload network policy where configured. Public delivery URLs use the binding access plane, not the caller's API Credential.
