Create a Credential

Every workload Credential belongs to a Service Account in exactly one Project. Create the Service Account and its reveal-once Credential in the SteamCall Dashboard, then send that value in the X-API-Key request header. The Credential's secret value is your API key.

Create a Service Account and Credential

1. Open Dashboard → Service Accounts.
2. Select Default project for a first integration, or another Project that already represents this application or environment.
3. Name the Service Account and select only the product permissions the workload needs.
4. Create the Service Account, choose Create Credential, and copy its value during the one-time reveal.

The value is hidden until you choose Reveal API key. Store it before leaving the reveal screen; you cannot retrieve it later. Permissions and the shared request limit belong to the Service Account, not to each individual Credential. Request-limit changes are managed by SteamCall administrators.

Store keys safely

• Keep production keys in a server-side secret manager.
• Use separate Service Accounts for applications or environments that need independent permissions, attribution, or rate budgets.
• Never embed keys in browser bundles, URLs, screenshots, or source control.
• Rotate a key if it may have been exposed.
• Never try to move a key between Projects; create a replacement in the target Project and cut over the integration deliberately.
